In a statement sent to all licensees in the nation, the authority restated the concerns voiced by Minister of Gambling Policy Franc Weerwind during a House of Representatives debate, in which Weerwind urged providers of gambling services to exercise caution when airing ads during the big game.
Legislation was draughted to prohibit untargeted advertising for high-risk games of chance due to the deluge of gambling-related ads in the Netherlands after online gambling became legal on 1 October 2021.
"The image of the gambling sector and individual gambling companies is not very good," stated René Jansen, chairman of the KSA, in a statement that followed the letter. Not helping matters was the deluge of ads that followed the legal market's debut.
"I pray that the lesson was understood. The rationale behind the decision to legalise gambling online was to provide a risk-free setting for those who enjoy gambling online.
The legal offer cannot be publicised without advertising. However, gaming firms must understand that releasing yet another deluge of advertisements would only serve to undermine their efforts.
Also, the KSA wanted to warn everyone that famous Dutch people can't be seen in gambling ads starting on 30 June 2022. They also made it clear that ads targeting minors or vulnerable categories like young adults are also forbidden.
